BIOGRAPHY

Trained as a lawyer, renowned photographer, and young mother, Barbara Cox is a Belgian painter living near Brussels. Her dreamlike and colorful world is an enchanted garden. Barbara aims to amaze and bring happiness.

Thanks to her parents, Barbara was immersed in art and museums from an early age and developed a passion for classical dance, later expanding to fashion and architecture. After several years as a lawyer at the Brussels Bar, she decided five years ago to leave it all behind and venture into wedding photography, which brought her greater daily joy and satisfaction. During the COVID pandemic, painting became a way to brighten her constrained life and release her overflowing creativity. Quickly, she developed her unique visual style, filled with cheerfulness and innocence, which is essential to our lives.

Easily recognizable at first glance, Barbara Cox’s ‘Garden of Dreams’ series transports us to a dreamlike and colorful, joyful, and enchanting world. Like a journey, each viewer is invited to create their own story through the colors and shapes on the canvas. As one explores, the ‘Barb Happy’ character, a little ‘guardian of happiness,’ appears in all her works. Other visual elements such as strawberries, eyes, bees, and positive phrases create a dynamic and free-spirited whole. “For me, art must bring positivity, calm, and make the heart smile.” She asserts the importance of spontaneity and nonchalance, essential for this freedom-loving artist who shuns authority and “what will people say.” Her creative process is instinctive, free from overly predefined frameworks.

Ambitious and passionate, her art, born from a desire to re-enchant, has met with immediate success and continues to amaze.
