PHILIPPE GAUBERTI

Originally from the Côte d’Azur, Philippe Gauberti draws on his Mediterranean childhood, with its intense, sunlit colors and the bold light that floods his works. Creative and curious from an early age, with a sensitivity to theater, visual arts, and culinary arts, his future seemed destined for an artistic career.

A traumatic event, however, altered this life path.

Embracing the freedom he would continue to cherish, he chose not to attend the art school that welcomed him, opting instead for the adventure of life, which led him to a successful business career. Yet his passion for art resurfaced, leading him to become first a collector, mingling with artists, and then to assemble broken materials to give them a new life. In 1999, alongside his professional work, Philippe Gauberti began studying object design. Metal, especially polished stainless steel, quickly became his material of choice, creating a natural affinity. He caressed the steel as much as he twisted it. Duality became his world, a balance between the cold rigidity of metal and the warm suppleness achieved through transformation. For four years, he undertook an intensive apprenticeship with a master craftsman in metalwork, polishing, and foundry work, learning the secrets of working with metal. With his skills now honed, he began creating his own artistic universe, polished stainless steel taking on a mirror-like finish that became his signature. “Who do I see? Who am I?” The dual “I” emerged and has stayed with him ever since.

Philippe Gauberti exhibited in 2020 at the Contemporary Art Center of Martres-Tolosane, as well as the Contemporary Art Center of Château de Nègrepelisse and Le Carmel in Tarbes. He participates annually in numerous art fairs.

In 2021, he was selected by the International Curatorial Council of the 13th Florence Biennale to exhibit his work and compete for the “Lorenzo il Magnifico International Award.”
