Stephanie Mackenzie’s story begins at the age of 5 when her family began to notice and encourage her artistic inclinations. She inherited her creative genes from her grandfather and her great-grandfather who were both painters and designers of leather objects. Having cut their teeth in Paris, they passed on their love of the French capital to Stephanie, who returned to Canada, to obtain a degree in photography at the prestigious Toronto art school, the Sheridan College. Then, she extended her skills to design, sculpture, painting and drawing. A few years later, she returned to Paris to pursue her dream… her works are now exhibited all over the world.

Digging into the inner world of the artist is at the heart of Stepahnie Mackenzie’s work. She uses the vibration of sound to immerse herself in her subconscious, allowing her inner voice to speak through movement. The intense colors and vivid brushstrokes that characterize her work are her body’s instinctive response to the music she listens to, whether classical, lounge or pop. Working on shapes, space and colors , Mackenzie creates an infinite number of combinations, expressing her inner self through the visual language of art.

MACKENZIE’S ENERGIES

The essence of the artist’s creative process is based on the concept of human energy, inspired by the karate lessons of her childhood.. before learning each movement she had to meditate, which allowed her to “become only ‘one, mentally and physically’, she explains, ‘unifying my mind to be free yet disciplined, teaching my body to perform movements that are both complex and controlled’. By connecting her body and mind, Mackenzie is able to connect into her subconscious and express herself through movement.

Stephanie Mackenzie explains that her art and her philosophy evolve “constantly re-inventing myself and going beyond what I see, taking my mind further than my imagination. I have always been able to see more than what is before my eyes. I dive really deep into my unconscious and work with that part of my brain. I play with my thoughts as in a puzzle in order to reach different creative states, pushing my limits and challenging myself to see not just what is possible but also what others consider impossible”.

Mackenzie’s inner world seems boundless and admirably inspiring…
